} Born without arms, Swapna Augustine creates beautiful artwork with her feet

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” Who can define this better than Swapna Augustine. Born without arms, what Swapna has achieved, some people can never achieve with arms. She never complained about her Physical Condition until she turned 12.

Swapna was born in a middle-class agrarian family. It was hard for her parents Sophie and Augustine to raise a disabled kid. Swapna recalls, "I was assisted by my mother for all the activities until I turned four. At four, a local tutor called Ayyappan started giving me home tuition on how to write holding pencil between toes.” She added, “Handicap is a state of mind. I do not want to lose out on living my life due to unavoidable shortcomings.”

After her graduation in History from St. Mary's college in Ernakulam, Swapna returned as a Painter. She has exhibited her work widely. She sells her paintings at the convention which pays all its members with a minimal renumeration every month. She also gives motivational speeches in schools and colleges to inspire special kids. Apart from that she is an active member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association (MFPA).

Despite her condition, Swapna wishes to continue her journey with the colors in future as well and we wish her all the best.
