} Singer-Songwriter Prateek Kuhad Releases Surprise New EP, Cold/Mess

Over the past couple of years, singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad has risen as one of India’s most distinctive voices, appealing to multitudes of tastes and ages. On July 13, he surprised his fans and the world with a brand new EP, cold/mess, and looked to cement his status as India’s premier singer-songwriter.

Cold/mess has been released as part of Saavn’s Artist Originals, continuing his association with them that began with the release of ‘Tum Jab Pass’ in 2017.

The six-track EP, cold/mess comes more than a year after ‘Tum Jab Pass’, and is a collection of songs that convey the anguish and elation of love and relationships. cold/mess showcases Prateek’s sound – an arresting blend that blurs the lines between organic folk intimacy and lush pop appeal.

Written solely in English and recorded in Nashville, cold/mess also marks the turning of age for Prateek as a songwriter. The music and lyrics are poignant and introspective, but at the same time display a lightness and charm that catches you by surprise.

“cold/mess is about love, heartache, angst, and conflict. A conflict brought about by a relationship that on a deeper level may possibly be flawed,” says Prateek of the lyrical themes. “There are six songs on the EP, and each song is part anecdotal, part fictional, fused to convey a very specific and personal emotion. These songs move together and attempt to tell a story,” he adds.

Prateek has tried and tested four of the six songs on the road, including the title track, 'cold/mess’, which is already a favourite with his fans. The two new songs on the EP are ‘with you/for you’ and ‘did you/fall apart’.

Fan-centric campaign for cold/mess

For cold/mess, Prateek eschewed the traditional album rollout in favour of a more fan-centric approach, led by the team at Pagal Haina. Prateek engages and interacts with his fans on a continuous basis on and off social media, and as a way of expressing his gratitude for their love and support, Prateek has given the EP to all of the fans on his mailing list, and requested they be the ones to lead the announcement of its release on July 13.

Prateek will also be performing a series of intimate, house gigs across India in August. To get a chance to attend, join his mailing list at

"I couldn’t have made it here without my fans, and I really wanted them to be a more intimate part of this release,” says Prateek of his decision to include fans in the release process.
